In Washington, a Renewed Taste for Auto Safety

It has been many years since Ralph Nader wrote is famous book, "Unsafe At Any Speed", decades in fact. What Nader's book did was to illuminate just how dangerous the cars we were driving actually were. In the 1970's there began a big push in Congress to make sure the Americans were driving cars that were not hazardous to our well being. And quite wrongly, most auto makers fought the push for safer cars. What car makers have learned since then is that making cars safer is actually good for business -- But hey, we live and we learn.

Here in our CT Ford dealership, we are always quite proud to point out just how safe the new Ford models really are. And customers do respond positively.

Over the last ten years or so, the government hasn't been quite as vigilant about improving on current safety standards. But lately, there has been a new push in Congress aimed at making the cars we drive even safer than they currently are. I have to say, that cars are much, much safer than they were when I was growing up in the 70's. But now that I have children of my own, I am all for cars that build upon that success. After all, it's about my kids now, not me.
Any who, read this New York Times Article to see just what is being done in the government to make are cars safer.
